A team composed of some of our second and third year BSc (Hons) Sound, Light and Live Event Technology students recently provided sound and lighting support for the Challange Derbyshire Charity Ball.
The Charity Ball was the first ever held by the charity Challenge Derbyshire and took place at the University’s Buxton Campus at the historic Devonshire Dome on Saturday, 10 February.
Final touches before the event began
The event was aimed at raising support for three local hospice charities by bringing together local business leaders and their teams. The night included a performance by the well-known children’s choir, Perfect Pitch, as well as sets from a local band and DJ.

There was a live auction held as well as a drive to raise funds to cover the salary of at least two nurses for this year. Amazingly, enough funds were raised to cover the salaries of 6 nurses for the year! In total, the event raised over £180,000, which puts the charity well on it’s way to raising £1 million (after this event they’re already past the halfway mark).

Our students did an excellent job transforming the dome (alongside the students and staff at Buxton) to create a great look and sound to the evening. The clients for the event were thrilled with our work and said it was beyond anything they ever could have imagined.
